This video shows a
robot cleaning a messy room. There are no sound in
the video because i wanted to show the viewers what
the robot is thinking while cleaning a messy room.
In 2011, a prominent
AI University made a video on youtube explaining to
people how difficult it was to build a robot to clean
a messy room. Take his word for it, it is very
difficult to build a robot to clean a messy room.
In 2012, the US
government funded the robot challenge to invite
Universities and Technology companies to design and
build a robot that can clean a messy room. All major
Universities and Tech companies are involved in this
robot challenge. Their goal is to build robots to do
mundane human tasks, such as climb a ladder or open a
door.
In this video, i show
people how the robot thinks while he is doing
cleaning chores. If you analyze the robot's thoughts,
it would be very difficult to build this robot using
machine learning.
For example, if a
telephone was on the floor and it was disconnected
and scattered, the robot needs to have vast knowledge
about telephones before it can place the telephone in
it's proper place. The first task is to know where
the telephone belongs. The robot can either use
common sense or commands from a person to know where
to place the telephone. Next, the robot has to
understand how the telephone works. He needs to know
that the handle must be connected to the telephone
box and the cable line has to be connected from the
telephone to the phone line in the wall. Other things
must be considered as well, such as accessibility,
the positioning of the telephone, placement of wires,
and so forth.
Sometimes cleaning a
room is like making an artwork because the robot has
to consider the composition of the room, where to put
items so the colors in the room are balanced out, and
to stack up items to make them look organized, etc.
Thus, cleaning a room is like making an artwork. The
robot wants to make the room look nice and neat and
appealing to the eyes of family members and guests.
One more thing worth
noting. The robot's conscious activates non-perfect
english. What this means is that some instructions
given by the robot's conscious are just gibberish and
chaotic words. For example, the robot's conscious
might activate this command:
1. get bag put bag in
baby's room.
Perfect english would
be:
2. I want you to get
the red bag from the sofa and put it in the baby's
room.
The robot's conscious
activates minimal words and based on these words, the
robot will know what to do next. If you look at all
my videos, the robot's conscious activates broken
english to do things. The voice in the robot's mind
doesn't really care about grammar structure.
